.IT is the official country code Top-Level-Domain of Italy.
Any companies or individuals who are interested in registering an .IT Domain, or people from the Information technology business sector.
* Minimum: 3
* Maximum: 63
* Letters and numbers
* Hyphens ("-"), however not at the beginning or directly in front of the TLD
To register an .IT domain you have to submit the registration request twice, once via our system and once via fax.
The electronic application can be initiated through our webinterface or API as usual, but for .IT registrations additionally a so called PIN is needed.
Depending on the type of registrant, the .IT PIN must be:
* For natural persons:
** The registrant's fiscal code (for italian citizens) or
** the number of an identity document (for citizens resident in other EU states, where there is no equivalent individual fiscal code).
* For other entities different from natural persons:
** The company's fiscal code or
** The company's VAT number
The PIN must be entered either in the "PIN"-Field in the webinterface or given with the X-IT-PIN parameter in the corresponding API call.
[COMMAND]
  command = AddDomain
  domain   = yourdomain.it
  [...]
  x-it-pin =
EOF
In order to simplify the rather complicated .IT registration process we introduced a semi-automatic form generator with which you can generate the most common .IT fax forms.
The fax generator can be found at href="http://pdf.rrpproxy.net" >http://pdf.rrpproxy.net] or href="http://www.formgenerator.net" >http://www.formgenerator.net]
Once a LAR was accepted by NIC.it it stays active for 14 days. In these 14 days no other LARs for this domain will be accepted by NIC.it. In case you made some errors while filling in the LAR (like giving the wrong company name) you can cancel the running LAR by sending one of the following text-snippets to NIC.it via fax.
For natural persons:
Oggetto: annullamento della richiesta di registrazione del nome a dominio #-DOMAINNAME-#
Il sottoscritto #-Name of the signer of the LAR-# nato a #-Place of birth-# il #-Signer's Birthday-#
residente in #-Signer's full address-# , firmatario della lettera di AR, chiede l'annullamento della

In order to change the domain holder of an .IT domain the current owner of the domain has to send a formal request along with a new LAR for this domain signed by the new owner. Some particular cases of registrant change (e.g. succession, company merger, change of name) require special fax forms.
The corresponding forms can be downloaded directly at NIC.it.
After filling in and sending the signed form(s) to NIC.it please request a so called trade with the TradeDomain command.
[COMMAND]
  command     = TradeDomain
  domain     = yourdomain.it
  ownercontact0 =
  x-it-pin   =
EOF
As .IT domains can only be registered on a yearly basis, they cannot be renewed explicitly. To renew an .IT domain you have to set the domain renewal mode or default renewal mode to "AUTORENEW" or "RENEWONCE".
In order to delete an .IT domain it has to be pushed back to the registry. This can be done either through the webinterface or the API.
[COMMAND]
  command = PushDomain
  domain = yourdomain.it
  target = NO-PROVIDER
EOF
*Only individual and juridical persons residing in or belonging to a EU Member State can register domain names under the ccTLD "it".

* Nameservers for an .IT domain have to be correctly configured before the actual registration, else the registration will fail.
Please check that the following requirements are met:
** The master server stated in the SOA of the zone must be one of the nameservers given with the domain application.
** Each nameserver stated in the application must have a valid NS entry.
.IT Domain transfers are possible. Upon a successful transfer the registration period is reset so transfers are billed like a new registration.
In order to transfer an .IT domain you will have to complete the following steps.
* Request a transfer in our system with the TransferDomain command.
* Go to href="http://pdf.rrpproxy.net" >http://pdf.rrpproxy.net] or href="http://www.formgenerator.net" >http://www.formgenerator.net] and generate the corresponding transfer form ''(Request for Modification of the MNT of a Domain)''.
* Fill in any missing data in the corresponding fields displayed by the form generator.
* Send a signed copy of this form to the fax number indicated on top of it.
Usually you can request an .IT domain to be transferred simply by requesting a transfer for the domain with the TransferDomain command in our system. Our system will determine the current registrants PIN automatically.
Sometimes the PIN can not be correctly determined by the system due to errors in the NIC.it database. In that case you will have to state the current registrant's PIN manually in the auth code field or the AUTH parameter.
Since the transfer form is treated manually by NIC.it a transfer can take several days.
Restores are generally possible. Please contact our support team at support@rrpproxy.net.
